The crispness of fall is in the air and temperatures are cooling. Away go the shorts and tees. It’s time for something more substantial and the best trends for the season are layers and anything yellow.
When we say yellow, that’s literally any shade of yellow. Mustard included. To the hear the fasionistas talk – from the east coast to the west coast and every fly over state in between – Marigold is the hottest color going this fall. And it is literally everywhere. Other striking colors this season are reds and oranges. Again there is a range of shades to choose from, and all of them are correct.
And wear it in layers.
Boots are in for footwear. Casual walking boots and sexier heeled varieties are all hitting the streets paired with fitted jeans or cotton pants. Start with a t-shirt and cover with a long sleeve collared shirt and a jacket. Fitted jackets – like mariner’s pea coats and similar cuts – are showing popularity, even early in the season.
Every piece of a layered ensemble need not match. Now, that’s not a license to show slacker roots, but latitude is there when pairing pieces. Choose a primary color and go from there mixing in subtle hues of others. Again, a shade of yellow will be a great choice to work with this season.
Athletic looks are also in this fall which contributes to an overall-casual tone. But that’s not to say there are no truly feminine styles getting attention. Look for crochet sweaters to be frequently seen on the streets and Peplum is also expected to be popular. Peplum is defined by its pleated and sophisticated sexiness and will figure into everything from cocktail dresses to jackets.
As we move into the more formal, holiday party season, expect to see dress and skirt slits make a dramatic comeback.
