Advice for Petite Women

May 16, 2011 By Fashion Bug

Naturally, petite woman have a desire to look tall, it is not just about the clothes they wear, but the posture they hold. However, for women a sure way to create an illusion of being a little taller is to wear strips going down, never across. In addition, a good trick is to wear quite light clothes, for instance chiffon or cotton material, so when they walk they do not feel so weighed down, and therefore tend to walk tall with their shoulders and head held high.

A round neck I have always felt makes you look shorter and a little plump, go for a V-neck, or even try the Kaftans style tops could work wonders.

A very simple light jacket, nothing with patterns on or to much detail, a lot of detail closes a person in, you want people to see you for you, not be hit with to much detail, it would just be to chaotic for your small frame.

Fashion Tips For THE Interview

October 17, 2010 By Fashion Bug

workwear_FullSo you’re looking to moving on up in the corporate ladder. It may be an interview within the same company you currently work for, but for a higher position; or it may be an interview for a totally different employer. It doesn’t matter. What you should pay attention to, in addition to your CV and interview replies, is your appearance.

Yes, it is illegal to base employment decisions on appearances, but no one can deny that how it plays a large role in some cases. Here are some tips that you should bear in mind when preparing for that interview.

First rule: never underestimate the impact that looks have. This is basically what I was getting at in the previous paragraph. Never mind that it’s not written anywhere. Never mind that it’s unfair. If you look the part, you just might have an edge.

Aim for a polished, commanding look. Employers look for the confident person. They prefer employees who come across as people who can get the job done. I am sure you are the best person for that job, but do other people know it? Having that “person-who’s-got-it-together” look will help.

Pay attention to the details. You may love that pair of scuffed shoes – the scuffs may have some sentimental or lucky value – but potential employers will only see that as a reflection of your character, and trust me, it may not be all that positive!

Last, dress for the position you are applying for. Do not make the mistake of dressing for your current position. Remember, it’s all in what you project.

Hand-Painted Vintage Clothing: Get Unique

July 19, 2010 By Fashion Bug

If there is one thing that trendsetters have in mind, it is that they want to look unique.  I know many people whose worst nightmare is showing up at a party (or any gig for that matter) and finding another girl wearing the same exact same dress.  Wake me up!!!

That is why I love going for the vintage look.  The idea behind vintage is that while you get that unmistakable aura of something coming from a time before now, you tend to get pieces that are not likely to have been replicated, right?

Well think again.  I would be the first to admit that the chances of finding two similar (or maybe even the same!) items of vintage clothing are quite high.  Sad to say, vintage clothing is not always one of a kind.

But what if you really have this thing going on for vintage?  Should the chances of bumping into someone else wearing the same dress put you off?

My answer’s a definite no!  Instead, why not follow this tip from Mary Kincaid of Style  Hive? She suggests going for hand-painted vintage clothing, for the very reason I have outline above:

Let’s not kid ourselves…not every piece of vintage clothing we see is totally unique. When you’ve been buying and wearing vintage clothing as long as I have, you occasionally find yourself shopping the thrifts or online sites and seeing something very familiar. It takes just a moment and then you realize you either have the exact same item in your own closet or you’ve sold it in the past. And I’m always surprised how frequently this actually happens. So that’s why I’m a complete sucker for any hand-painted vintage pieces–each one is totally unique. And there’s something very special about wearing a custom-made piece that exhibits someone’s artistry.

Indeed, hand-painted anything normally offers that one of a kind look that many of us look for.  Start your hunt now!

Summer’s here and boy, is it hot! Well, I guess it depends on where you are but for the most part, the heat waves seem to be right on schedule. You can opt to stay inside and chill out with the air conditioner on full blast (and pay for it when the electric bill comes) OR you can go dress yourself up for the summer and have fun outdoors! Guess what I suggest?

Here are some tips on how to dress for the heat and maybe get some longing stares down your way. [Read more…]
