Men’s Fashion Tips For 2013

March 19, 2013 By Harpermac

While men’s fashion may not change as dramatically or as quickly as women’s fashion, there are definitely changing tides that need to be observed. In the course of updating your fashion, a popular approach worth considering is finding accessories and other smaller updates to equip a classic style with modern fashion trends. Men have more freedom than ever before when it comes to accessorizing, meaning there is plenty of creativity that can go into this process.

And with so many options available, men can pick and choose their additions to cater to their personal style and fashion preferences. In 2013, practicality will be embraced. Here’s a quick rundown of the top accessories for men this year.

Bags

Purses and handbags are no longer just for women. While designers aren’t comfortable enough to market these items as “man-purses,” that’s more or less what they are — designer bags that men can use to store various items. These bags more closely resemble a backpack and are typically slung over the shoulder, but they offer beautiful designs and colors that will look fashionable whether at work or play.

Shoes

The big trend in 2013 is that dress shoes are taking a backseat to alternative forms of footwear, in particular the boot. Matching boots with suits and other semi-formal attire — as well as casual clothing. Of course, that doesn’t mean dressy mens shoes are going extinct — you’ll still want to have some dress options available in your wardrobe. Your best bet is shoes in an Oxford style. Make sure they’re built for comfort and support, offering a reinforced heel and good arch support to keep your feet in good shape. [Read more…]

Heels to Die For

June 14, 2011 By noemi

You probably think that that’s figurative – heels to die for. According to doctors, though, heels are something that could just about kill you. Ask the woman who is not used to wearing high heels. They’d probably agree without hesitation.

Think about those shoes that you love to death (no pun intended). Seriously think about them and how your feet feel after wearing them for a bit (not even for an hour). Forget the emotional aspect – you feel great because you look great in those shoes – but remember the physical pain.

That is precisely what doctors – podiatrists in particular – are saying:

“It’s partly why we have a job,” said Dr. Martin Alongi, a podiatrist at Beverly Hills Podiatrist in California.

“I just figure women in their 20s are going to do it. If they take care of their feet all the other time, most people can get away with it. There’s going to be an occasional person who injures themselves.”

So why are we continuing to wear high heels? Why do these heels keep getting higher and higher?

I suppose that you can answer that for yourself. It’s just the way it is. Never mind the pain and the risk of getting injured. Heels are sexy.

However, experts tell us that we do not have to suffer just to get the look we want. Heels don’t have to be six inches to look good, do they? Here’s something that you probably already know, but it’s a good reminder: wear what looks good and what makes you comfortable in ALL aspects.

Wear heels that will give you a look to die for, not a look that will kill you.

From the Archives: Holiday Shopping: The Dressy Pump

November 22, 2010 By Fashion Bug

These days it all seems to be about the impending holidays, from my friends’ dreading opening the “Christmas List” on Facebook, to stores and malls already decked out in Christmas displays, to signs everywhere telling me its time to shop, shop, SHOP!  Not that I need my arm twisted to do the latter, but it’s a fact of the holidays, and the sooner you start, the less overwhelming the season becomes.

So let’s start with footwear.  Whatever the occasion, be it a party for the office, with friends or a romantic rendezvous, a new pair of shoes will do wonders to put you in the festive mood.  Normally, the word dressy comes to mind, and we all know that dressy usually equals = heels. Yes, we all feel sexier in them, but I’d say that the average woman, would most welcome a break from them – but only if the affair does not entail having to wear a long gown.

Flats, or should I say, “dressy pumps” are perfectly acceptable for all your December affairs, provided they are dressed up with the required sparkly embellishments that scream “holiday season”. Take these oh-so-pretty silver be-jewelled flats ($100) from Zara pictured above.  Unless you’re truly vertically challenged, they should take you through most of the season in relative comfort and safety (think slippery, wet roads due to climate change), and the object of envy from your friends and colleagues in their sexy but pain-inducing (and expensive) golden Jimmy Choo heels. Or for a more flirty look, I’d go for these sweet pink sequined Kate Spades, on sale from $275 to $165 at ShopBop.

While dressy thongs are okay in the summer months, I’d stay clear of them in the holiday season, whether or not you live in a warm climate. I just feel too much foot doesn’t work this time of the year, in the evenings at least.
