What’s Up for Shoes This Spring?

April 8, 2013 By Teresa Te

As the spring season sets in, some of you may be more concerned about what clothes to wear but tend to forget the footwear. What your feet should be wearing needs to be most comfortable to you. This will let you gain that confidence to show off your style in a way that only you can do.

Whatever the season, comfort should always be top of mind when choosing your fashion style from head to foot. Women, in particular, also need to think about their health when it comes to wearing clothes and shoes. Keep in mind that it’s not healthy to be wearing high-heeled shoes all the time so variety is key to ensuring you look stylish while maintaining your health at the same time.

To those who want to show off their feet, the gladiator sandals are still in. Styles to choose from are the metallic, mix of bright colors to the snake prints or mixed media center panels. These strappy sandals look sexy whether you’re in shorts, skirt or cropped pants.

The Year Of The Mid-Calf Boot

March 20, 2013 By Harpermac

winter boots

Give those tall boots a rest; mid calf boots are taking over this season. From the name you can tell that these types of boots run a little shorter than knee-high boots but are taller than ankle boots. Unlike the contour-hugging tall boots, these are also usually made wider at the top to provide the space needed in order to tuck in leggings, jeans, or tights.

Where to Wear Them
Mid-calf womens boots come in a number of colors, materials, and styles. These are your new basic all-purpose boots, perfect for occasions such as: [Read more…]

Interpreting Pantone’s Influence on Spring 2013 Fashion

February 26, 2013 By Harpermac

Do you ever wonder how fashion trends develop? When following the latest runway shows, similar styles and themes appeared to crop up among the major design houses. Although there are many forces that guide the fashion industry, when it comes to choosing an on-trend color palette, Pantone is the reigning queen. Twice each year, color specialists and fashion experts hold an exclusive meeting to decide upon a color palette for the coming season. The resulting Pantone color reports are essential viewing for any lover of fashion.

What Are Pantone’s Spring 2013 Colors?
For the spring 2013 season, Pantone’s color palette references fresh, beautiful floral colors. The colors aren’t as saturated as in years past, but have more boldness than basic pastels. They feature the beautiful Nectarine, muted Dusk Blue, lush Monaco Blue, dusky African Violet, vibrant green Tender Shoots, bright Lemon Zest, punchy Poppy Red, a refreshing Grayed Jade and calming Linen. Also included is the hue named 2013 Color of the Year: Emerald. Incorporating any of these colors into your wardrobe is sure to keep you on-trend for the spring season.

How to Wear the Pantone Colors
In general, it’s best to stick to just one or two key colors in any look. Unless you’re wearing a colorful floral frock or another print, having too many colors in one outfit overwhelms you. Several of the Pantone colors naturally pair well together: Lemon Zest with African Violet, Monaco Blue with Tender Shoots or Nectarine with Dusk Blue.

To incorporate these hues into your favorite looks, find a great pair of fitted ankle-length pants in a punchy shade. Poppy Red pants look timeless and classic when paired with a white button-down shirt. Or find Monaco Blue pants for a fresh take on regular navy blue. If you’re wearing bold colored pants, pair them with neutral ballet flats and a simple top. Add your favorite necklace and stud earrings to complete the look.

Fresh New Looks with Fashion-Forward Colors
One of the freshest ways to wear this season’s hottest colors is with fun prints. Floral prints are big this year, cropping up in blouses, dresses and shoes. Find a frock with African Violet, Tender Shoots or Dusk Blue to look ultra-chic. Add some tougher accessories like a fitted leather jacket or sexy booties to keep the floral look from becoming too girly.

Another hot trend this year is stripes. Look for a Red Poppy striped rugby-style shirt to pair with tailored linen shorts. This unexpected pairing looks fresh, modern and chic without losing your casual cool-girl vibe. Alternatively, find a striped boatneck dress with three-quarter length sleeves in Emerald or Tangerine to create an ensemble that flatters nearly every figure. Pair it with a fitted blazer and cute heels, and add chandelier earrings to complete the look.

When experimenting with Pantone’s spring 2013 colors, less is more. Updating your wardrobe can be as simple as winding a Monaco Blue scarf around your neck or finding a great pair of Poppy Red flats. Adding one or two key pieces into your regular wardrobe rotation helps you stay on-trend without breaking the bank. Or invest in a gorgeous Emerald structured leather handbag for a piece you can take everywhere. Adding one or two pops of color to each look will keep you looking fresh and modern.

It’s Cool to Wear Overalls Again

February 22, 2013 By Teresa Te

Make way for the return of the overalls. They’re part of the nineties fashion that are making a comeback to include the Dr. Martens boots, flannel shirts and floral babydoll blouses.

The overalls, for some of you who still remember, used to be closely associated with working people doing manual labor in homes and offices such as painters and carpenters. Eventually, though, they became a fashion statement and now, they’re back.

overalls for women

This outfit comes in various styles – long or short, skirt type, colored, denim and corduroy among others. Most of what was en vogue in the past were the loose and baggy types.

Wearing the overalls can be done in different ways as well. Some even prefer to leave one strap unbuckled for a stylish effect.

Today, designers have come up with their own version of the overalls. The forecast is that this is going to be part of the spring trends as brands such as Moschino, Isabel Marant and MM6 by Maison Martin Margielao already have this in their collections. Major jeans manufacturers such as Guess, Diesel, Joe’s Jeans, Free People and American Apparel have come up with their own as well.

The latest overalls are sexier (body hugging) and although the denim material is still very popular, variations are available including those made from leather. As to the right way to wear it, there are no rules. One can use a tube, a sleeveless shirt, a collared shirt or a spaghetti strapped top underneath. Whatever makes you comfortable is most important.

Surprisingly, many female celebrities don’t mind wearing this denim jumpsuit at all. In fact, many of them like it and some still wear it when they feel like it.

How about you? Are you up to the challenge of wearing the overalls again?
